Agarak (Armenie: Ագարակ) is a ceety foondit in 1949, in Syunik Province, Armenie. It is considered the soothren end o Armenie as it is locatit on the left bank o river Araks on the mairch wi Iran, 9 km sooth wast tae Meghri. The toun is on a distance o 410 km sooth o the caipital Yerevan an 94 km sooth tae Syunik's centre Kapan. It wis a railwey station on the demolished an nan-functionin branch Yerevan-Nakhichivan-Horadiz. Agarak forms an urban commonty (municipality). The Naitional Statistical Service o the Republic o Armenie (ARMSTAT) reportit its population wis 4,881 in 2010,[2] up frae 4,801 at the 2001 census.[3]

The name o the toun derivit frae a veelage situatit no faur frae it.
Agarak wis foondit in 1949 as an aurie o wirkers an in 1954 it gained a toun status. The further development o the toun is relatit tae the copper-molybdenum plant biggit in 1958. Fowk wur brocht here frae the nearbi veelages an in a few years it became an industrial toun. In 1972 the population o the toun wis aboot 3800 an in 1979 it became 4073.

Currently, thare are 2 kindergartens, 1 seicontary schuil, an airt schuil, a cultural palace, 2 libraries an a fitbaa stadium in the toun.

The industrial enterprises o the toun are the "Agarak copper-molybdenum Plant", the "Karchevan Poultry" an the "Agarak Bakery". The Meghri custom hoose an the neebourin mercat are situatit in Agarak territory. 18 organisations are registered in the toun.[4]
